With fuel costs soaring, energy efficiency is a major concern for homebuyers in 2025. But what constitutes an energy-efficient home - and what advantages does it offer?
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) indicates a home's energy efficiency, so you’re likely to come across them when searching for your new home. EPCs are measured on a scale of A (most efficient) to G (least efficient).
At Linden Homes, all our standard homes have an EPC rating of A or B, compared to less than 5% of second-hand properties that reached the same standard.
The rating is based on factors including:
Energy-efficient windows play a crucial role in maintaining a comfortable temperature in your home throughout the year. These windows typically utilise double or triple glazing, which minimises heat transfer by creating a barrier between the inside and outside. This helps keep your home warm in the winter by preventing heat from escaping and cool in the summer by stopping heat from entering.
In addition to the type of glazing, the window frame material also impacts energy efficiency. Frames made from wood or uPVC are generally more energy efficient than aluminium frames, helping temperature regulation and energy savings.
When choosing appliances in your new home, energy efficiency is key. Appliances are rated on an energy scale of A to G, with A being the most efficient. For example, an A-rated dishwasher can save you around £25 per year and uses less water than a lower-rated model.*
Well-insulated homes are more sustainable. Insulation acts as a barrier that slows heat flow, preventing heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. This reduces the need for heating and ventilation, lowering your overall energy consumption.
Linden Homes not only look great, but they’re also great for your finances. According to the Home Buyers Federation, our homes are on average 64% cheaper to heat than an equivalent Victorian property, saving you up to £907 a year on year heating bills.**
Additionally, an energy-efficient home can benefit you in the future. The resale value of homes with high energy-efficiency ratings is likely to increase as popularity grows, providing a financial advantage later on.
