1st Falfield and Stone Brownies plant tree to honour Queen Elizabeth ll

Brownies from 1st Falfield and Stone Brownie Unit have planted a pear tree at Linden Homes’ Falfield Grange development in Falfield as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy campaign.

The campaign, which was a nationwide initiative to mark the Platinum Jubilee, has been extended until the end of March 2023 and gives people the opportunity to plant trees in memoriam to honour Her Majesty.

Brown Owl, Jane Barber explained: “Queen Elizabeth ll was our patron from 1953. She was a Guide and Sea Ranger from 1937 to 1947 and supported guiding until she died.

“Throughout her life, the Queen embodied the spirit of guiding. Every day she kept her promise to do her best, live according to her beliefs, and to serve people. Her dedication and service as the longest-reigning monarch has inspired all girls and young women in guiding to serve their communities across the UK and beyond, a legacy our members will continue to uphold in her honour.

“Planting a tree was our special way to celebrate her life and also have something for the girls to remember her in the future as the tree grows and matures”.

Linden Homes supports many community initiatives near to its developments and is creating homes locally at Falfield Grange. Connor Punyer, the site manager, arranged for a hole to be pre-dug and the brownies planted the tree with care, which will grow as part of the development – highlighting this important time in our history.

Sales consultant, Becci Douglas said: “We were pleased to donate the pear tree and it was wonderful to see the brownies get involved in the planting. I was in the elf pack when I was younger and the brownies is a fantastic organisation that provides so many amazing memory-making opportunities for children.”

The 1st Falfield and Stone Brownies – available to girls aged seven to 10 years – meet every Wednesday and aims to teach the brownies about themselves, their community and their world by introducing them to new challenges, opportunities and fun.
