Apartment Living Ticks All The Boxes For Downsizer Paul
01 Apr 2014

WHILE many might think that downsizing is reserved for people of a certain age – Linden Homes is proving that apartment living has a much wider appeal.

The award-winning house builder currently has a number of stylish apartments for sale at the popular Orchid development in Oakham.

The two-bedroom apartments complement the existing new homes at the development, located just a short distance from the bustling market town centre.

Perfect for people looking for a smaller, more manageable home – whether retiring, buying their first home or simply searching for a change to the norm – apartment living can tick many boxes.

Among the most recent customers to snap up one of the apartments, which each comes with its own parking space, is Paul Mott.

No stranger to the development itself, Paul spent three years working as Linden Homes’ site manager at Orchid – so knows first hand the quality and high standards offered by all the homes.

Having spent all his life in Loughborough, Paul was looking for change of location. He said: “When I started working at the Orchid development back in August 2011, I was taken with the overall open countryside, the market town feel to Oakham itself and the location to good road networks.

“At first I wasn’t really anticipating buying an apartment, however I soon realised that the living space was more than generous, well sound proofed and equipped.

“An apartment suited my living needs and requirements, particularly the fact that there is no maintenance to the building which leaves me with the free time to enjoy my weekends.”

Paul – who has moved from his three-storey town house in Loughborough - used the Government’s popular Help To Buy scheme to assist with the move - which he says allowed him to reduce and better manage his monthly outgoings.

Here’s how the scheme works:

  • Help to buy is available on new build and some second hand homes.
  • Purchasers need a minimum five per cent deposit.
  • All homebuyers could be eligible, not just first-time buyers.
  • The government will lend you up to 20 per cent of the value of your property (new build only) through an equity loan, which can be repaid at any time or on the sale of your home.
  • Buyers will only need to secure up to a 75 per cent mortgage from a bank or building society.
  • The maximum home purchase is £600,000.

Paul added: “I owned a ski apartment in the French Alps which was a very luxurious property, but having built the apartments on this scheme, the actual build quality and features within the construction are significantly superior.”
Prices for the ground, first and second floor apartments at Orchid currently range from £112,500 to £119,950. The sales and marketing suite and show home at the development are open from Thursday to Monday from 10.30am until 5pm. Alternatively contact the sales team on 01572 720245.
