CHARITY workers, childcare professionals, parents and children are today celebrating an amazing makeover of their worn and date community centre.
Thanks to the efforts of the Selby Hands of Hope charity and its founder Wendy Singh, the Thorpe Willoughby Children’s’ Centre has taken on a new look and lease of life – following a complete revamp and refurbishment.
A vital community facility which has served local people for around 20 years, the centre – which looks after around 200 children a day, from pre-school to after school – was in need of some TLC.
After a visit by Selby Hands of Hope, which dedicates its work to grass roots local causes, Wendy, local builder Paul Simpson and an army of volunteers set to work.
Impressed by the project, developer Linden Homes offered a donation to the refurbishment – and the result of several weeks of hard work has seen the centre receive double glazed windows, new electrics and plumbing, suspended ceiling, redesigned interior, new furniture and an upgraded outdoor space.
Wendy said: “I was asked to go along to the centre and within minutes I had a vision of what could be done. They only asked for a new front door – so to give them all this has been an amazing feat and my huge thanks to everyone who has made this possible.”
Gizzy Murray, Linden Homes connections and marketing manager, said: “Wendy and her team have done an amazing job in exceeding the expectations of everyone involved with this wonderful community project. With Linden Homes having strong connections in the area, we were delighted to be able to make a financial contribution towards the work.”
