Developer Pledges To Do It's Best To Support Girl guiding In North Yorkshire
09 May 2018

House Builder Linden Homes has pledged a donation to support the on-going Birk Crag Centre re-development project to boost Girlguiding in the region.

Linden Homes West Yorkshire currently has two developments close to the Centre in Harrogate – which is earmarked for a £1.2 million transformation.

In support of one of the largest community initiatives in the area, LHWY is making a donation towards the ambitious scheme.

Birk Crag Centre is a training and residential centre owned by Girlguiding North Yorkshire West, which provides meeting facilities for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section on a weekly basis. It also hosts residential visits for holidays, activities, leader training and events.

After half a century of use, the Centre is no long fit for purpose and proposals for a modern, environmentally-friendly, cost-effective all-purpose centre are aiming to put Girlguiding on the national map, as well as inspiring and exciting its users.

The design for the Centre on Cornwall Road, Harrogate, includes activity rooms, residential accommodation for up to 40, access to woodland, a sensory garden, nature trail, campfire and outdoor skills area.

Linden Homes West Yorkshire sales director Gina Holmes said: “This is a very exciting and ambitious project, which has won the hearts, dedication and support of so many people to benefit the community both locally and further afield.

“As we have two family-friendly new homes developments close to the Centre, it is likely that our own residents will at some point want to make use of the fabulous facilities and we are delighted to offer a contribution towards the funds.”

Stuart Holland is Project Manager for the new-look Centre and Angie Lockwood local County Commissioner said: “We are delighted and very grateful to secure the support of Linden Homes as part of our ongoing fundraising efforts for Birk Crag. We have already raised some £700,000 and continue to plan events and initiatives to help reach our target. The new Centre has been a dream for over 10 years and this donation takes us another step closer to realising our dream for today, tomorrow and the future.”

Demolition of the current building is due to begin this month.
