Developer Serves Ongoing Support To Tennis Club As It Emerges From The Pandemic
30 Mar 2021

Developers Linden Homes and Bovis Homes are continuing their support of one of East Riding’s most popular and long-running leisure facilities – which has just celebrated a re-opening.

Established in 1921, Pocklington Tennis Club has grown into the area’s premier tennis facility, with around 100 adult members and large junior section, as well as running sessions for all ages and abilities.

However, like thousands of other leisure service providers across the country, the club has been affected by the restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic; but has survived - and with the help of sponsors like Linden and Bovis, is once again ready to welcome players back.

Club chairman Chris French said: "We're hugely excited to be opening our doors again to the community and our members following a year of tough restrictions.

“We know that tennis is a huge part of people's lives and to have this taken away hasn't been easy. Whilst it's been quiet on the courts, that hasn't stopped our members ensuring the club is in top condition ready to be reopened for the season in what will be our centenary year.

“The club is proud to have survived the lockdown period and is truly grateful for the continued support received from sponsors, such as Linden Homes and Bovis Homes, who ensure vital community resources such as Pocklington Tennis Club continue to thrive today and in the future.

“We're really looking forward to playing some tennis and welcoming new faces, as well as old, back to the club."

Regional sales manager for Linden and Bovis Homes’ parent company, Vistry Homes, Melanie Parker said: “We have been supporting Pocklington Tennis Club for a number of years and realise, along with our many local residents and customers, and know what a vital service it provides in terms of physical and wellbeing benefits.

“Despite an incredibly tough year, we are thrilled that the club has now been able to re-open and wish everyone involved the very best for what we anticipate will be a busy season.”

The club – which has continued with its working in the community during lockdown by delivering meals to those who are isolated and donating tennis balls to do welfare charities - is located just a stone’s throw from Linden Homes’ Wilberforce Park development, providing a perfect social and sporting facility on the doorstep for new residents.
