Family Love Brampton Development So Much They Bought There Twice!

The Olufemi family love where they live so much they bought a new house on the same development.

Just 18 months after purchasing a three-bedroom semi-detached home at Brampton Park near Huntingdon, Rebecca and Taiwo upgraded to a four-bedroom detached property at the Linden Homes site following the birth of their third child.

The couple and their two oldest children first moved to the development, off Buckden Road in the village of Brampton, in December 2019 when they bought a three-bedroom Barford House.

“We were living in a three-bedroom semi in Peterborough but it was just not right for us and we wanted to be nearer to my work in Cambridge and closer to our families in London,” said Rebecca, a 36-year-old HR advisor.

“We did some research online looking for homes in the Huntingdon and St Neots area, and the development at Brampton Park popped up.

“The site was up and running so we went along and had a look for ourselves rather then relying on images on a screen. When we got there, we were very impressed.

“The houses were well-built and had been done really beautifully and the development was sympathetically laid out with a huge amount of green spaces, which appealed to us as a couple with children.

“When we walked around the site we spoke to people already living there and they were very friendly and all singing the praises of Brampton Park – they all loved where they lived. That did it for us.”

The Olufemis were busy enjoying life in their new home when baby number three arrived.

“It was in March, about four weeks after our daughter was born, that we started to talk seriously about the need for a larger house,” said Rebecca.

“We now had three children and wanted to have a family home where they could all have a bedroom of their own, so that was the starting point.

“We really do love it so much at Brampton Park that when we decided we wanted to move house, we knew we had to stay in Brampton village, if not within Brampton Park.”

Rebecca and Taiwo, a 35-year-old GP, toured the second phase of the development and when they were told about the four-bedroom Mylne house type, they were so impressed by what they saw and many great features stood out for them.

The couple sold their three-bedroom home and purchased the new four-bedroom house for £380,000 with a 15 per cent deposit of £57,000 and an 85 per cent mortgage of £323,000.

The family moved into their new home on 28 June, and Rebecca said that Linden Homes, which is part of the Vistry Group, worked quickly to ensure they completed the purchase before the end of the stamp duty holiday just two days later, saving the couple £6,500.

“The sales team were great,” she said. “They were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.

“They moved things on very quickly and professionally so we did not have to pay stamp duty which saved us a fair amount of money.”

Rebecca said the whole family is enjoying the ideal location of the house which is facing an open green space and close proximity to play areas.

“I do a lot of baking so having a large kitchen-diner now is brilliant,” she said. “There is so much space that I can be baking or cooking in the kitchen and the children can be in there too but not in my way at all.

“The children love the garden which is probably three times the size of the garden we had in Peterborough. But I think what really does it for them that they have larger and more practical bedroom spaces.

“The new house is just around the corner from the old house so we can keep in touch with neighbours and friends we have come to know at Brampton Park. The children can stay at the same schools and don’t have to say goodbye to their friends.

“When we first moved here the reduction in commute time for me was amazing. I used to have 90-minute drive to work from Peterborough but from here it takes me just 40 minutes to get to the office.

“Taiwo has a 25-minute drive which is longer than he used to have, but he actually enjoys the commute down the A1– and we are much nearer to our families in London.

“We have bought the house where we want to stay to raise our family. Everything about Brampton Park - the Co-op on site, the wide open spaces, the lovely café, the seven play areas – make it perfect for us.

“I am so glad we were able to find the ideal home to bring up our children.”
