Let There Be Light At Gnosall Rugby Club
12 Jun 2017

Permanent floodlights are set to be installed at Gnosall Rugby Club’s home ground, thanks to a fundraising drive which included a donation from Linden Homes.

The housebuilder has given the club £500 towards the cost of installing the floodlights, which will be used for evening training sessions.

The club, which is based at Gnosall Sports and Social Club off Forresters Lane, had previously been using temporary lights, which were much lower and only lit up part of the playing area.

Gnosall RUFC currently has three teams and 60 regular players, and it is hoped that the addition of the new floodlights will help the club to attract new players.

Club secretary Amy Glover said: “We’re a fairly big club and players aren’t readily available to train during the day, so being able to practice at night is a massive plus for us. The new floodlights will be a big improvement on the temporary ones we have been using, and will allow us to use the whole pitch for evening training sessions.

“The club plays a big part in the community in Gnosall. We have three squads, and the first team is just coming off the back of another promotion, so there’s a great spirit within the club which has been boosted by the prospect of the new lighting.

“We’re very grateful to the team at Linden Homes for their generosity.”

Gnosall RUFC was founded in 1995 but closed seven years later in 2002.

The club was reformed in 2014 and this year its first team clinched the Staffs Merit Division One title, earning promotion to The Midlands Five West (North) division.

Investing in Gnosall

Linden Homes is building a collection of four and five-bedroom homes at The Hollies, off Knightley Road in Gnosall.

Linda Huntington, Head of Sales at Linden Homes West Midlands, said: “Gnosall Rugby Club is at the heart of the local community, and we are pleased that we have been able to help the club to install permanent floodlights.

“I’m sure the improved quality lighting will be a big boost to the club, and we hope that it continues to go from strength to strength.”
