Linden Homes Commits To Bridging The Skills Gap
01 Mar 2019

Ahead of National Apprenticeship Week (4-8 March 2019), Linden Homes is proud to have become a member of The 5% Club, an employer-led organisation that works to inspire, educate and retain a growing body of people into “earn and learn” positions.

When joining The 5% Club, Linden Homes signed up to its charter which outlines its commitment to helping the country’s growth agenda as well as playing its part in addressing youth unemployment and the widely talked about, skills gap. As a result, Linden Homes has set out its aspirations of having 5% of their workforce in “earn and learn” positions such as apprenticeships, sponsored students or graduate schemes by 2024.

Tom Nicholson, Divisional Chairman at Linden Homes, commented: “Pledging to support The 5% Club’s charter shows our dedication to playing a role in Britain’s long-term prosperity and helping towards benefiting the economy as a whole. We are fully committed to reaching this 5% and we’re sure our successful Management Trainee programme helps us to achieve this aim.”

Linden Homes already offers its Management Trainee programme, a comprehensive training scheme, that provides trainees the necessary skills and qualifications to have a successful career in the housebuilding industry.

The scheme covers all aspects of the housebuilding process from the initial land buying through to the selling and marketing of the newly-built homes. Although trainees will focus on one area of the business, they will have the opportunity to complete departmental rotations to gain a valuable insight into how the business works as a whole.

Tom continued: “Our Management Trainee programme combines on the job experience with formal qualifications which allows people to start earning a salary whilst continuing with their education. Our specific schemes set out a career path but also give the opportunity to gain experience in each part of the business”.

Lady Cobham, Director General of The 5% Club said, “We’re delighted to welcome Linden Homes into membership. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR professionals, sharing and learning from each other. All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes, helping people develop meaningful career paths.”

Along with all other members, Linden Homes will report annually in its corporate responsibility section of its Annual Report with progress being measured by The 5% Club: www.5percentclub.org.uk. For more information on the careers available at Linden Homes visit: lindenhomes.co.uk/careers
