It may not be the weather for barbecues this week but Linden Homes West Midlands has found an altogether different way to celebrate National Barbecue Week (26 May-1 June) – the housebuilder has constructed a home that's made from sausages and beef burgers!
The local developer has constructed the 4ft x 4ft home using a timber frame, which has then been coated with polystyrene, foil and then stuck the sausages and burgers to it using cocktail sticks.
To build the ‘barbecue home’, it has taken 200 sausages, 25 burgers, 4 potato waffles, one yoghurt flapjack, one Twix and some chocolate stars!
The home, together with a large food parcel, has now been donated to Birmingham-based youth homeless charity St Basils.
Linda Huntingdon, sales manager and the brainchild behind the idea commented: “We try to help out local causes as much as we can and we thought that by building a barbecue home for St. Basils, it would be something quite different yet beneficial.
“The frame was built by one of our apprentices – a very different task for him to get involved with and one which took a bit of persuading. He also helped to place the sausages and burgers on there too and the end result is fantastic!”
Anita Hemmings, manager at St Basils Erdington accommodation scheme, said: “When Linden Homes told us about their idea we found it both intriguing and unusual.
“We accepted their offer of free food for our young residents with open arms and couldn’t wait to see the end result, which we think is marvellous and will be very popular with our young people. We would like to thank Linden Homes for this kind donation and for supporting a local charity”
