Only Four Beautiful, Historic Apartments Remaining
06 Feb 2013

There are now just four beautiful apartments available at the lovely Victorian Wormestall building at Linden Homes’ St Bartholomew’s Grange development in Newbury.

The building, which used to be the old Newbury Boys Grammar School, has been brought back to life by Linden Homes – and many of its lovely old features have been carefully restored. But in this incarnation, Wormestall is no longer a school: From the outside, it may still look like that – but inside it is now a beautifully designed collection of 14 apartments.

Because the architect had to work within the parameters of this old building, none of the apartments is the same. Today, the entire building has been completely transformed from a rather gloomy and dour Victorian school house to a light filled and airy characterful series of modern, chic homes.

Of the remaining properties, one has two bedrooms, the other three are 3 bedroom apartments. Apartment ‘W9’ also has a spiral staircase which leads to the master bedroom, and comes complete with carpets and light fittings, to help get its new home owner started from the off.

Mark Docherty is the sales and marketing director of Linden Homes:

“St Bartholomew’s Grange has been a great success. The location is great – within walking distance of Newbury town centre – but what has really made this development so good is the care and attention to detail that has gone into the refurbishments.

“Linden Homes won an award in November for Best Large Housebuilder 2012, at the What? House awards – and I think the attention to detail that was noted by the judges then is very evident in the refurbishment of Wormestall. The apartments and the communal areas of this building are spectacular. We’re very proud of them. We’re not surprised that there are now only four left.”

Galliford Try’s Chief Executive, Greg Fitzgerald, has been shortlisted, for the second year, as Entrepreneur of the Year at the PWC and Financial Times sponsored PLC Awards 2013 – a ceremony which rewards excellence in the small and mid-cap quoted company sector.

Alongside this, the FTSE 250 company, which operates across the UK, has been shortlisted under the Company of the Year category. In 2012 Galliford Try was nominated for Best Turnaround Company. Both nominations follow Galliford Try’s housebuilding division, Linden Homes’, rapid expansion over the last three years.
