RA Butler Pupils Help Linden Homes Capture Saffron Walden Memories
12 Jul 2017

Swapping classroom for construction site, pupils from a Saffron Walden primary school have created their own piece of history with housebuilder Linden Homes at its new local development.

Year six ambassadors from South Road’s RA Butler Academy helped build and bury a time capsule at ‘Saffron View’, a collection of new homes in construction off Radwinter Road.

A selection of newspaper cuttings, popular toys, books, stamps and handwritten letters were placed into a time capsule, which the RA Butler children then delivered to the Saffron View site along with the school’s PA to the headteacher, Wendy Zych, and assistant headteacher, Karen Scott.

Mrs. Scott commented: “The children were excited to play a part in Linden Homes time capsule project. They enjoyed collecting items for burial and seeing a real building site in action. The pupils loved the thought of preserving a glimpse of life in 2017 for future generations. We’re delighted that Linden Homes asked for us to be involved.”

The 10 – 11-year olds were also given their first insight into the property sector, enjoying a talk with the Linden Homes team about the new properties and the opportunity to see the development’s progress.

Roseanne Bullen, regional sales and marketing manager at Linden Homes Eastern, said: “It’s been an absolute delight to work with RA Butler celebrating the launch of Saffron View. A time capsule burial seemed all too appropriate at a development that will so significantly improve the local area’s amenities and aesthetic.

“While building work continues on the properties at Saffron View, we’ve been able to give buyers an insight into what their future homes may look like by selling off-plan from the nearby Meadow Gardens marketing suite. Now, future residents will have insight into the past thanks to RA Butler, and what was here before the Saffron View development.”

Saffron View is a development of 200 homes ranging from one-bedroom flats to five-bedroom houses, expected to create 300 jobs and 40 per cent more affordable housing. The site has rural surroundings but is within a commutable distance from London. During the project, Linden Homes will generate £1,685,458 into the local economy.
