Spotlight Shines On The West As Sue Wins Housebuilder Star Award
01 Dec 2021

Sue Scholfield, sales and marketing director for Vistry Group’s Western region, has been honoured at the Housebuilder Awards – the Oscars of the industry – by winning the Housebuilder Star Award.

Sue, who has over 31 years’ housebuilding experience, works for Vistry Western, which operates in Gloucestershire, Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire and builds Bovis Homes and Linden Homes properties.

Before Vistry was formed in January 2020, Sue stepped up and became acting managing director for the region, guiding the business through a merger. She led her team through restructures and the start of the pandemic, while reviewing how to sell homes without the benefit of contact with customers.

It was her “calm manner and motivated leadership” as acting managing director that impressed the judges and saw her scoop the prestigious award at the black-tie event on 24th November. The ceremony took place at the InterContinental London-The O2 and Vistry went on to double its success by picking up the respected Large Housebuilder of the Year Award.

Now in its 17th year, the Housebuilder Awards, run in partnership with the National House Building Council (NHBC) and Home Builders Federation (HBF), celebrates excellence in all aspects of the sector, including customer satisfaction, marketing, design, training, regeneration and sustainability.

Sue commented: “I feel incredibly privileged to accept the Housebuilder Star Award. To receive recognition for doing your job is very humbling and I’m delighted to be honoured. I would love to thank everyone in Vistry Western for their continued support, hard work and loyalty, as it’s this teamwork that makes the difference: everyone doing their job to the best of their ability, while ensuring we catch up to reflect on what went well and what could be changed for the better. The teamwork and commitment from every department is exceptional.

“In the last couple of years, we’ve seen a merger, new colleagues and new developments, but when you include the changes with Help to Buy and Stamp Duty, plus the challenges that occurred due to the pandemic, you realise just how busy it’s been! I feel very proud of where we are as a company. It’s an exciting business and a fantastic industry to be in.”

Managing director, Dave Farley said: “We are delighted that Sue has been honoured, it’s the only award that was presented to an individual so it’s incredibly special and certainly well-deserved.

“In our employee engagement survey Sue is the highest performing director across the whole business, reflecting how people feel about her leadership and the quality that she consistently delivers. She was also presented with the top award at Vistry’s internal awards, which is no mean feat in a company of over 3000 employees!

“Sue did an amazing job throughout the merger to ensure everything kept running smoothly and I was handed a high-quality business with high-quality people when I took over the reins. She has been a constant source of support whilst driving an exceptional performance from her sales team. She cares deeply about the people; so many have received her backing and owe her much to their success – we’re thrilled she’s been recognised.”

Sue lives in South Wales with her husband Bruce. She has two grown-up sons, Michael and Sam, as well as two dogs, horses and a menagerie of farm animals! She loves horse-riding and regularly competes in dressage competitions with her horse, Wally.

Vistry holds a five-star rating award from the Home Builders Federation.
