House builder of the Year, Linden Homes has welcomed the decision by Havant Borough Council’s Development Management Committee to give its plans for the development of the former St Michael’s Convent site in Waterlooville the go-ahead.
With the plans given the green light following extensive earlier consultation, the vacant site will be transformed with 82 new affordable and open market homes. As part of the scheme, the former St Michael’s Convent building will be sensitively converted to form 17 two and three-bedroom apartments. The development also includes an important contribution towards Waterlooville’s housing need, with 25 of the new properties designated as affordable housing. The former Sacred Heart Church will also be retained with its use to be confirmed at a later date.
Michael O’Brien, director of planning and design at Linden Homes Southern said: “We are delighted that Havant Borough Council has given the go-ahead to our proposals, which we consider provide the best possible opportunity to secure the future of this important site, whilst helping to meet the housing needs of the local area. With this milestone now achieved, we look forward to turning our attention towards preparing to start work on-site.”
Debra Ivory from Adams Hendry, which has been advising the site’s owners, commented: “It is pleasing to see the recognition given to Linden Homes’ proposals, which we consider, offer a sensitive and appropriate approach to bringing this site back into positive use.”
Further to the approval, work is expected to start this Autumn, subject to the planning agreement being signed and site purchase completed. For queries regarding the site please contact 0800 298 7040 or to register interest, please contact 0845 266 5276.
