Cleaner, greener heat from Metropolitan

All homes in phases two and three at The Gateway in Bexhill will have their heating and hot water delivered by a Community Heat Hub and network.

The Community Heat Hub creates heat using large air source heat pumps, that is delivered to every home through a network of highly insulated pipes. There is no need for a gas supply as the heat pumps are powered by electricity from the national grid. This means you won’t have a boiler or hot water tank in your home, and there won’t be individual air source heat pumps installed outside every house.

Instead, each home will have a Heat Interface Unit, which is no bigger than a traditional gas boiler and will control the heat and hot water within the home.

Metropolitan owns, operates, and maintains the complete system - from the Community Heat Hub to the underground network of pipes, up to and including the Heat Interface Unit in each home at no extra cost to you. So, there are no emergency repair bills to worry about.

By choosing a home on The Gateway, homeowners will cut their heating-related carbon emissions by 80%* from the day they move in. And, as the electricity grid becomes zero carbon, so will the Community Heat Hub and the heat it supplies to each home.
