Why make Suffolk your home?

If you are seeking a new location to call home, then Suffolk with its 50 miles of beautiful coastline, historic towns and villages, wonderful countryside and excellent travel links to London and the Midlands is an excellent choice. We have chosen some of the county’s most sought-after locations to build our high-quality new houses for sale in Suffolk, where village life can be enjoyed, yet all the essential amenities are within reach.

Ipswich, famous for being one of England's oldest towns, is the largest town in the county. With its rich maritime history and impressive architecture, this vibrant town has plenty to see and do. Bury St Edmunds follows in terms of size, and is home to Suffolk’s only cathedral - St Edmundsbury with impressive abbey ruins and gardens. Bury St Edmunds Theatre Royal is a must-visit for theatre lovers and history buffs, being the only surviving Regency playhouse in Britain.

Choosing your new home from our collection of property for sale in Suffolk will give you plenty of opportunity to enjoy nature. Suffolk’s nature and landscapes are second to none with the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB alone covering 403 square kilometres of stunning beaches, heathland and forests. This landscape has been known to inspire countless artists, and is one of the most important AONB wildlife areas in Britain as it encompasses three National Treasure Reserves.

Getting in, around and out of Suffolk

Suffolk benefits from good road networks and transport links from its main towns and cities.

The M11/ A11 going north east from London links the capital with Suffolk, and a network of strong A roads link you to the major towns and the coast. Coming from the midlands, a newer stretch of road - the A15 links from the A1 right through to Bury St Edmunds and down to Ipswich and the coast.

For travel by train, there are many options. The Greater Anglia line will take you from Suffolk’s highest coastal point of Lowestoft to London in around 3 hours. Otherwise it’s just 1 hour and 10 minutes to London from Ipswich by train, and a little under 2 hours from Bury St Edmunds. There are 15 train stations in the county so reaching key cities in the midlands, south and north by train from most places is feasible.

Whilst Suffolk itself doesn’t have any airports, there are a number within a reasonable distance. Stansted is the largest at around 1 hour from Ipswich, then you’ll find Norwich airport even closer, now with an expanding list of destinations to UK and popular European locations. Southampton Airport, around 1 hours and 40 minutes to the south of Suffolk, also has an expanding list of short haul destinations with various carriers.
